One of the more horrific examples of a butterfly effect within recent times was the small change that occurred to a virus. One tiny virus (the butterfly) created a “thunderstorm” of an effect on the human population around the world with its appearance as the AIDs virus.3 Its effect literally changed every aspect of humanity; our mortality, morality, behavior, laws, psychology, medicine, education, transportation, and more.

Examples of the butterfly effect can also be seen in the interactions between people at a physiological level. It has been demonstrated repeatedly that the most effective method to influence a person’s choices is by “planting the seed of an idea” within them and letting it manifest into actual changes within their lives.8 The direct approach however can and often does result in the person becoming more entrenched within their current belief system. This is likely due to a perceived threat to their freedom of choice.
